Name: Orson

Title: ARTURAS 0001

Gender: Male

Age: 37

Race: Cybernetically enhanced Giant Bear.

Location: Sanguian / Wherever mercenary work takes him.

Occupation: Mercenary for food.

Physical Appearance: Orson, by all accounts, looks much like any ordinary giant bear. Orson weighs a staggering 2700 pounds including all the hardware stuffed under his fluff and flab , built around a massive frame that measures barely under 10.5 feet while standing upright. Orson’s fur is a muddy, matted brown, and could clearly do well with a good washing. Long, very thin strips of fur are curiously missing from Orson’s hide, the longest starting immediately between his large brown eyes and traveling down his spine. Similar strips of missing fur exist on his underbelly, beginning at the top of his chest, and along the underside of all four appendages. He tends to move about on all fours, just as a normal bear would, and rises to his hind legs when threatened or angry.

Personality: First of all, Orson almost always tends to put his stomach first. He’ll take on any job, no matter how immoral, dangerous, or even boring, so long as a meal has been promised, and being a bear means he’s always hungry. Secondary to his overpowering instinct to feed, Orson’s cybernetic enhancements has given him a remotely human personality, if only to the extent of a small child. He is playful, friendly, loves shiny things, sweets, and baby talk, though is completely socially ignorant and otherwise stupid-seeming. However, when faced with situations involving baser instincts, such as self preservation or territory, Orson is quite clever and devious, with a sneaky hunter-like intelligence to work in tandem with his overpowering bulk.

On the whole, Orson is a gentle and loving creature… So long as the food keeps coming.

Strengths/Good Qualities: Orson understandably possesses tremendous physical strength due to being a bear, though it is further augmented by an advanced secondary cybernetic skeleton that contours and wraps around Orson’s organic bones. This secondary skeleton is composed primarily of hardened epheme steel, and is given power via the naturally occurring electronic impulses that command the muscles of his body. This secondary skeleton will continue to function at nearly full capacity so long as enough flesh and muscle remains to trigger an electrical impulse, though will cease if all the muscle has been torn away. In addition to granting Orson a dramatic increase to physical power, the metal also keeps Orson’s bones intact after forces that would normally cause breakage or shattering. The top of Orson’s skull is protected by a 1.5” thick plate of steel, adding further protection to his brain from projectiles and trauma. Similarly, Orson’s rib cage is fused with a breastplate of steel of similar thickness to that on his skull.

In addition, Orson’s brain has been almost completely reconstructed with an advanced cybernetic AI, painstakingly wired into his already existing nervous system., with the exception of a few major sections governing instinctual behavior, such as the Medulla Oblongata, and the forward cluster of gray matter dealing with a bear’s advanced sense of smell. Orson’s Medulla has been drastically improved upon, rather than replaced, increasing the flow of blood and rate of respiration. This also greatly increases his natural involuntary reflexes, allowing him to swat flies from the air or attempt to move out of the way of an object at a much faster rate than normal. The enhancements to Orson's brain has also given him the mental dexterity to operate large firearms, though they usually need to be specifically crafted for his use. He's not a great shot, but he normally uses a weapon where he doesn't need to be.

Though Orson’s AI brain does not allow him to actually speak, he is equipped with a somewhat archaic voice synthesizer that allows him to project whatever thoughts he would otherwise wish to share in the form of a soft, proper-sounding male voice from somewhere on the roof of his mouth.

Weaknesses/Bad Qualities: Orson's most notable weakness is his size. He's unable to fit inside most buildings, and any small ride motor would be crushed under his fatness. His size also makes it difficult, if not impossible to blend into any sort of crowd. If Orson is in town, you can bet that everybody knows about it.

Orson's AI had several major issues, though it manifests as the social maturity of a small child. He understands spoken english, but he cannot read or write and only speaks in small sentences, often in single words.

You'll have to explain this bit a little more. Remember, Volias was a city-continent before the Apocalypse. Perhaps there was a nature preserve thereabouts?

Oops, forgot to cut that bit out... Yeah, I talked to Z a little bit about where a natural setting would occur on Volias, and we thought that after 500 years it felt plausible that a forest could have popped up near the mountains. Though I'm still a bit unclear on if that would be a possibility, just forgot to edit it out.

I figured that for the people of Volias to support themselves that they would have had to preserve at least a little bit of nature or ground that was not paved over because they would have needed at least a little bit of land to supply them in food and whatever animals they needed. I believe that after the destruction of Muiriac that some of the destroyed land, especially that that was farther away from central part of the continent, the Guildspires and where Sanguain would eventually be would be left to tend to itself. I think that what nature that was left would try to retake some of the land that it had previously had and the trees would grow like crazy, more so if they were tainted ones. 500 years is a long time and I think that at least in some places that patches of wildlife would try to spring up through the cracks in the pavement.

Yes, I agree. But that needs to be included in the profile then, so that newbs that come here don't read this profile and get funny ideas about the setting. :P

And what preserves there were on the city-continent would have been minimal. Most of the primary industries were outsourced to the Bands.
