No new posts The Band of Peers

The seven island continents of the Band of Peers, renowned for their great Universities and Lyceums of magic and lore, were once tasked with the all-important job of education. To attend a school on one of the seven Learned Islands was an honour every student on the Volias mainland dreamed of. The Island furthest away from the Volias continent is only four hundred miles from the coast as the crow flies. The Islands are also quite close to each other. Now, most of the great buildings of learning and magic are reduced to rubble, but much of their knowledge has been salvaged by the Underworld Gangs, and by the few survivors that remained on the Islands. The schools, and their legacy, live on through private tutors, and apprenticeship systems scattered across the Band.

No new posts The Band of Saints

The fifteen island continents of the Band of Saints were long regarded as hallowed ground, many of them only to be walked upon by the spiritually enlightened. They were, and remain to this day, fruitful places of prosperity and peace. To be granted permission by the Mesa to dwell on the Band of Saints was the equivalent of being elevated to demigod status, and this honour was only granted in lieu of the most epic acts of heroism or philanthropy. It was heaven on earth. Today, Gangs that have secured themselves footholds on any of these fifteen island continents invariably enjoy a certain degree of prosperity. Many have even established wealthy and peace-loving, well-gated communities on the Band of Saints, and successfully walled themselves off from the raging, post-apocalyptic hells of the rest of the world. But trade between the Band and the inner world is a thing of the past. The Band of Saints lies nearly 250,000 miles away from the Band of peers, with very few islands in between, and the trip there, even financed with the resources available to the rich and powerful Gangs, is an exodus rarely made, simply because it isn’t all that profitable.

No new posts The Band of Warriors

The Band of Warriors is in fact an undersea ring of Empyrean, stretching a million miles in length around the inner bands and the main continent, and jutting up above the surface here and there to form islands of pure Empyrean, in a frighteningly uniform and symmetrical circle, for the entire million-mile ring. As civilization expanded, the Mesa began using these pure black, glossy islands to erect war factories, shipyards, military research laboratories, bomb test sites, and training barracks. Today, these withered husks of the war and destruction industry house untold numbers of dangerous chemicals, archaic weapons and technologies, dangerous experimental magics, and raw metals ripe for the harvest. The Band lies another 65,000 miles away from the Band of Saints, again with very few islands in between. The deeper waters between the two Bands are rich with aquatic life, valuable minerals, and veins of pitch.

No new posts The Band of the Wretched

The Band of The Wretched is a colossal atoll of reefs, mountainous rock islands, and jagged wastes of Empyrean that rings the known world from the Boundless Sea. This fourth and final ring of land was essentially a prison in pre-Apocalypse times, reserved for the most heinous of criminals. Slowly, over time, communities have been built on the larger rock islands and Empyrean wastelands that are not constantly rocked by the tempests of the Boundless Sea. These shantytowns were once populated by the worst sort of thieves, rapists, murderers, plus the occasional deeply unfortunate wrongfully accused. They were, for the most part, wild, lawless, and desperately impoverished, relying on whatever resources the Sea deigned to grant them.

Through the generations, a need for survival has banded these towns together as family, and now, hardy, adventurous seafaring types, the descendants of criminals, make their living out of the Boundless Sea, hunting fearsome beasts and selling what they can from the carcasses. Many of these creatures’ organs, teeth, and so on, will have magical applications. Since it was discovered by many of these scattered dwellings that they were no longer outcasts in the wake of the Endbeast, and in fact, were welcome upon the mainland as warriors for hire, a great many Boundless Artifacts, as they have come to be called, have made their way inland and into the other Bands, or even into Volias itself.
